The Things I Have Learned

You and I started our relationship very different people.

Through the time I have spent with you, I have learned so much. I learned to gently release the clutch as I press on the acceleration. I learned that there is a tube underneath the tire of a bike. I learned how to cut men’s hair. I’ve learned that publicly farting is hilarious.

You have taught me so much about music through our many road trips. You taught me how to run like a true warrior and how to correctly set up a tent. I learned to use a power saw. I also now know how carbonara is made.

But the most important thing I have ever learned from you is that we are a team. Although we don’t always play the same positions or have the same trajectory, you’ve taught me that being on a team means supporting and trusting each other to make calls and decisions to benefit our win. The decisions one of us makes, can’t be detrimental to the other. We can only go as fast as the slowest person.

You have changed my perspective on love and on life. That it can be, and is at times a competition but that it’s hard to go at it alone.

Having you in my life is like understanding why Nintendo added Princess Peach to be saved to the Mario games. Life’s like a classic platform jumpy game. Fun, catching stars and throwing koopa shells and bashing goombas, but to save Peach?
It just makes it that much sweeter, that much more purposeful and meaningful.
