The Following Days I remember in Thailand

How We Met

What I remember afterwards comes all in a heap clumped together like candy because it was all just so sweet with a bit of sticky.

He forfeited going to the full moon party to travel with Phoebe and I. We were trying to get to my beloved Tonsai beach. We had to stop on an island overnight somewhere. We bought weed. I smoked some and go very paranoid. I asked him if he only liked me just because I was older. He laughed in my face and said no, he thought I was cool. That was cool.

I went back to our room with Phoebe, only to wake up to gentle tapping on the window. It was Charlie, he had come back before other Charlie because he wanted to hang out with me. So we sat outside to not wake Phoebe up. Sat and talked some more whilst being eaten alive by mosquitoes.

The boat ride to Railay was incredibly rocky. Everyone around us was feeling queasy. Charlie included. I tried to rub his back and give him water only to start feeling queasy myself. He seemed to immediately recover and was consoling me and trying to make me feel better.

We got to Railay and were waiting for a room. I went out for a cigarette and he came out and sat behind me and cuddled me. This was the first time I had felt safe and loved in a long time. When we went back inside, he carried my big backpack up the stairs. Phoebe told me she had a really good feeling about him. Like he really cared about me. I couldn’t help but agree.

He went out drinking with some people we went rock climbing with. I had the key and woke up to a few missed calls and texts asking me to open the door downstairs. He came back early again to hang out with me. Then drunkenly crawled into my bed.

He proceeded to jump from my top bunk and projectile vomit on my backpack the next morning.

He was very obviously feeling ill. So other Charlie, Phoebe and I left for Tonsai. Before I went, I made him take some activated charcoal pills. Once we got to Tonsai, we messaged him to check in. Other Charlie was worried since he wasn’t answering, but I said he would be fine since I gave him a magic charcoal pill that would solve his icky stomach. He was baffled. I didn’t know at the time that he just didn’t take anything to help with minor problems. He believed his body would sort itself out on its own, let alone take a strange black pill given to him by basically a stranger. I didn’t think too much of it at the time, but looking back, this touches me because he trusted me.
